Adenan, who took over as the Chief Minister on Feb 28, 2014 passed away at the Kota Samarahan National Heart Institute (IJN), about 1.20 pm, his niece confirmed.
The cause of death has yet to be announced but Adenan had a history of heart problems.
In an interview with Bernama before the Sarawak state election last year, Adenan said he almost died three years earlier because of a heart ailment.
He was Sarawak's fifth Chief Minister after leading Barisan Nasional to a landslide victory in the 11th state polls on May 7, 2016.
