A police source told the daily that a “recce” was evidently carried out at KLIA2 on Sunday with CCTV footage showing the six suspects walking around the low-cost carrier airport, at times “being playful and spraying liquid at each other”.
“They might have been in the middle of choosing the right secluded spot to attack him at the departure hall,” the source was quoted as saying, adding that the walkabout at KLIA2 helped them survey the security level at the airport.
The second woman suspect was arrested in a dramatic raid at a hotel in Ampang early yesterday morning.
The second suspect carried an Indonesian passport, which listed her name as Siti Aishah.
The document said she was from Serang in Banten, a province neighbouring Jakarta. Her date of birth was given as Feb 11, 1992, and her ethnicity was “Jawa”.
Police also reportedly found a stack of cash in foreign currency, including three US$100 notes when making the arrest at a room on the third floor of the hotel in Ampang.
The police source told The Star they were led to the suspect by her boyfriend, whom police had detained earlier. There was no information as to how and why the police had arrested him.
He had allegedly driven the suspect from a hotel in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, where she had been staying with the first woman suspect.
“He (Farid) is not one of the prime suspects but he is assisting us with the investigation.
“Information that he gave led us to the arrest of the second suspect,” Selangor Police Chief Comm Abdul Samah Mat was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, the first woman suspect was arrested after coming back to the scene of the crime, klia2, on Wednesday to try and board a plane for Vietnam.
She was arrested based on positive identification from the CCTV footage of Monday’s incident.
The woman was carrying a Vietnamese passport which listed her name as Doan Thi Huong.
According to police sources, it was believed that Siti Aishah may have abandoned the first suspect – the “LOL” girl – and was holed up at the hotel until the “coast was clear” before trying to leave the country.
Jong Nam, who is the eldest son of former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, arrived in Malaysia on Feb 6, and was scheduled to board a 9am flight to Macau on Monday. While at the klia2, he was approached by a woman who sprayed him with a liquid, while another woman held a cloth over his face.
He asked for medical assistance at the KLIA2 service counter but died on the way to the hospital.
Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told media that Jong Nam’s body would be handed over to the North Korean embassy here in accordance with international protocol and after the legal procedures were done pertaining to the results of the post-mortem which was completed on Wednesday night.
Jong Nam is the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
