Driver killed, two others critically hurt in Kinabatangan

KOTA KINABALU - A man was killed and two others were seriously injured when their car hit a tree in an oil palm plantation in the Kinabatangan district on Saturday afternoon.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department operations centre chief Khatizah Rahaban said another passenger in the car sustained minor injuries while the fifth person escaped unscathed in the 1.15pm mishap.

She said the deceased had been identified as driver Jamaluddin Saka, 51 while those seriously injured were Mariamah Toleh, 50 and Mohd Shami Rizal, 11.

Khatizah said 20-year-old passenger Afiq Fahmi Hasbi Salamat was unhurt in the accident.

She said firemen had to extricate the remains of Jamaluddin from the mangled wreck.

The injured were rushed to the Kinabatangan Hospital. - Star
