Indonesian football fan alleges being attacked by Msian football fans after football match

SHAH ALAM - An Indonesian football fan claimed he was attacked by a group of men after Saturday's SEA Games semi-final match between Indonesia and Malaysia.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said the 30-year-old man lodged a police report at about 4am on Sunday alleging he was hit by the men whom he believed were Malaysian football fans.

He said the man claimed he and a few friends were waiting at a bus stop near Persiaran Sukan here when the men approached him and started to create a ruckus.

ACP Shafien said the man claimed he was punched by one of the men and sustained injuries to his hand when he tried to run away.

The man received outpatient treatment at the Shah Alam Hospital.

The case has been classified as rioting.

Police are also investigating an incident where a firecracker went off during the match at the Shah Alam Stadium.

It is learned that the firecracker exploded where the Malaysian fans were seated.

ACP Shafien advised those with information on the two incidents to report to the nearest police station.

Before the match, police had advised both the Malaysian and Indonesian football fans to enjoy the match in a civil manner.
