Republicans circling the wagons around Trump and tax cuts

I keep seeing comments about how congressional Republicans are defending Trump, or at least remaining mum on his scandals, because they need him to sign their tax "reform" (read: tax cut) legislation.

Here's the thing.  Even if Trump were removed from office, President Pence would be just as amendable to signing a Republican tax cut bill as President Trump.  Republican reluctance to criticize or investigate Trump isn't about tax cut legislation.  It is about 2018 and 2020.  They don't want a replay of 1974/1976.  That's it.  That's all.  They are circling the wagons to try to protect the electoral future of the party, not their legislative priorities.
