A brief sidenote on the Congressional Jazz Caucus

Yes, there is such a thing.  As a jazz fanatic, and someone whose real job is to study Congress, I couldn't help but notice and comment on this story from Downbeat.

John Conyers is a toilet clog.  Fortunately, that clog has been removed from the pipes of Congress.  Conyers also sponsored symbolic resolutions to promote jazz.  With him gone, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) has decided to form/re-form the Congressional Jazz Caucus.

To my knowledge, Sheila Jackson Lee is not guilty of sexual harassment.  She is, however, a vile human being most famous for treating her interns and employees like what John Conyers actually is.

Jazz deserves better than this.  Jazz deserves better than John Conyers.  Jazz deserves better than Sheila Jackson Lee.

Then again, personality-wise, jazz deserved better than Charles Mingus, and he was a fuckin' genius, so...

Regardless, jazz thrived without any political support for decades.  Its fanbase is small and shrinking.  This makes me unhappy.  Whatever Sheila Jackson Lee does, though, won't matter.
