Rudy Giuliani, bad lawyer, gets something very, very wrong

Donald Trump kept promising to hire the best and the brightest.  So... when's that gonna start?  As his lawyer, he currently has Rudy "9/11" Giuliani.  Rudy does not appear to understand the task of legal defense, nor that of political defense.  Currently making the rounds is the following gem from yesterday's interview:  "In no case can [Trump] be subpoenaed or indicted...  If he shot James Comey, he'd be impeached the next day.  Impeach him, and then you can do whatever you want to him."

I know what you're thinking.  You're thinking, didn't he tell that sexual harasser, Charlie Rose, back in the '90s, that the president does have to respond to subpoenas?

That's not where I'm going with this.  Giuliani demonstrating hypocrisy is a dog-bites-man story.  No, what Rudy got very, very wrong is the claim that shooting Comey would have led to an impeachment the next day.  Or... ever.

This wasn't a joke, and Donald Trump cannot be impeached for anything.  Giuliani was wrong.  If Trump shot James Comey, there are legal debates over whether or not he could, in theory, be arrested and prosecuted before impeachment, but there can be, in my mind, no debate on the following point.

He would not be impeached.  The Republican Party would never allow it, no matter what Trump does.  Or has already done.

The kind of people who protect someone like that... well, I'll get back to my series on enablers soon.
