To the west of Limassol is the Akrotiri Area of the British Overseas Territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia.

Aphrodite - Limassol archaeological Museum

Near Limassol, the sea, impregnated by Uranos, gave birth to Aphrodite, aka Venus, aka Cypris.

Luigi Palma di Cesnola carried an enormous amount of Cypriot antiquities to New York where he founded the New York Metropolitan Museum.

The Amathus Monolith, the biggest carved vessel in the world, was taken to the Louvre.

Grigoris Afxentiou was an Eoka guerrilla fighter who fought against the British rule in Cyprus. He was second in command to general Georgios Grivas.
