Sputnik: From Zero to Hero: As Thailand Celebrates Cave Rescue, Truth Emerges About Coach
Twelve boys who were rescued from a cave complex in a remote corner of Thailand have been reunited with their families. Sputnik looks at the role of their coach, who was originally blamed on social media for leading them into the caves.
It has since emerged the boys actually entered the caves on their own and Ekkapol Chantawong, 25, went in to look for them and then managed to keep up their spirits during their 17-day ordeal.
Chantawong, a former Buddhist monk, taught the boys, who were aged between 11 and 16, how to meditate.

WNU Editor: When I first heard about this story, I wanted to know why did the coach wanted go into the cave. Apparently he did not .... the kids themselves went in and when he noticed that they had disappeared, presumed that they went in to the cave and went after them. And then there is this Australian hero, an expert caver and doctor who was asked by Thai authorities during his vacation to help, and he did, dropping everything and being the last person to leave the cave when all the kids were rescued. And we should not forget the Thai naval SEAL who died during this rescue mission, who sacrificed his life doing what he loved. A remarkable ending to a story that Asia and much of the world was focused on, and one that will be remembered for decades to come.
