What Does The Average Citizen In China Think Of President Trump?

Epoch Times: Chinese People Hope ‘Powerful Grandpa Trump’ Ends the Chinese Communist Party

People in the United States and other Western countries may have called Donald J. Trump a lot of different names, but in China, many people are addressing him as “Chuan Da Ye.”

“Chuan” is the Chinese pronunciation for Trump. “Da” means big or great, and “Ye” means grandfather, grandpa, or more broadly, an elderly male. So “Chuan Da Ye” can be roughly translated as “Powerful Grandpa Trump.”

For people who know the Chinese language well, the words “Da Ye” together carry connotations of affirmation, respect, affection, authority, capability, and more. When people call someone “Da Ye,” it often means that they are willing to follow this person, at least morally. And they would rather side with this man than oppose him.

WNU Editor: Epoch Times is not sympathetic to the Communist government in Beijing, but their analysis on how the Chinese person on the street views President Trump is .... in my opinion .... correct. When Chinese state media criticizes President Trump, I have noticed that Chinese social media users do not jump on board. And among my many friends in China .... since President Trump's election .... I have noticed a lot of criticism of U.S. policy, but none directed personally at the U.S. President. In fact .... quite often I hear grudging praise, and some of these individuals have important positions within the government. I have also noticed this same view of Trump in Russia. State media does criticize President Trump, but Russian social media with its millions of users have been quiet if not supportive of President Trump when this happens. Another observation .... Western media does not cover what the average person in Russia or China thinks of President Trump. They should .... because I think they are missing a big story here.
