Kavanaugh and current polling on Trump

Just a simple observation for today, but if you turn to the polling averages over at RealClearPolitics, there is something interesting with Trump's approval ratings.  There was a marked decline a little while back in Trump's disapproval numbers, leading to an overall improvement, even though his approval numbers didn't really move.  The spread just got better for him by a bit.  Over the last week, that erased as Trump's disapproval numbers shot right back up to where they had been for the last couple of months.  What has been happening?  Um... gee...  As is often the case, The Onion leaves me without much to add, but the simple point here is that what's happening, in terms of public opinion, is that there was some improvement for Trump, and that the result of "Brett's" scandal is a reversion to form for Trump.  I have written before about the bizarre level of stability in Trump's approval/disapproval numbers, and here we are again.  Why?  Well, if you have a strong opinion on the Kavanaugh mess, is that going to cause you to deviate from your default opinion on Trump, or revert to your default opinion on Trump?  The numbers are pretty clear here.
