Trump and the Shallow State

I will be writing more about this soon, but in the wake of the New York Times op-ed from an anonymous official, combined with Woodward's forthcoming book, it is worth talking about the real conspiracy against Trump.  It isn't a "deep state" conspiracy to undermine him.  A "deep state" conspiracy is one in which deeply-embedded executive branch officials who cannot be rooted out work, behind the scenes, unknown and unseen, to undercut the president.  This is what I'm going to call a shallow state conspiracy.  Those involved are at the highest level, closely associated with Trump, directly appointed by him, working right under his clueless nose.  And note my use of the word, "conspiracy."  As I often write, you should ignore conspiracy theories.  Conspiracies don't work because they are too hard to keep under wraps.  They leak out, someone talks, and so forth.

That's happening!  They're talking!  They talked to Woodward, they're talking to the New York Times.  This isn't a secret.  Plenty of people in the White House understand that Trump is "amoral," in the phrasing of the anonymous Times editorialist, and plenty of synonyms for "dipshit" according to those quotes in Woodward's book.  The two-track presidency, as the Times editorialist put it, isn't a secret.  It's happening openly.  Conspiracies can't be kept a secret.  And this isn't.  The shallow state.

Keep it up, ladies and gentlemen!

And remember, if things get too bad, just put him in front of a tv with Fox on, they'll say nice things about him, and it'll calm him down.  I wish I were joking.  This is our world.

As usual, The Onion is on point here.
