Saturday music: If you don't love country, you hate 'mer'ca

OK, fine.  Caravan again.  My old grad school advisor defined a "classic" as a piece of work that gets cited regardless of whether or not it is relevant.  I define a "classic," in musical terms, as a piece that gets covered, regardless of genre, just because it's bloody awesome.  Caravan is awesome, and Duke Ellington is the best composer of all time.  To borrow a phrasing from Steve Earle, I'll stand on Beethoven's coffee table and say that.*

Anyway, I wanted to go with Chet today, but for whatever reason, I couldn't find the version from A Session with Chet Atkins, his 1955 classic, on youtube.  There's a really good one available from his collaboration with Les Paul, though.  Chet Atkins and Les Paul together, playing Duke Ellington.  What's not to love?

Steve Earle once said, "Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world, and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that."
