Take-away points from the end of Mueller's investigation

Robert Mueller has finished his investigation.  Here's what you should keep in mind.

First, I have been telling you all along that there is precisely zero chance that Trump will be indicted on anything, or removed from office.  This is still true.  Donald Trump is absolutely, completely, 100% legally safe.  It doesn't matter what he did, or what Mueller found.  Trump will not face any consequences.  Ever.

Mueller recommends no more indictments.  What does that mean?  It means that, short of obstruction of justice charges, he doesn't think he has anything anyway.  The consideration for Manafort, Flynn and the rest was the interesting question of why he didn't charge them with more.  Remember?  One of the looming questions was whether he was holding bigger charges over their heads to get them to flip.  Manafort in particular makes a compelling case that Mueller doesn't think he can get any more convictions.  Manafort cut a deal, then lied to Mueller while handing information over to Trump in order to secure a pardon.  If Mueller were holding back on any more indictments, it would have been for Manafort, or maybe Stone.  If he isn't doing that, Mueller's got nothin', as far as he is concerned, from a lawyer's perspective.

That leaves Trump.  The DoJ's legal opinion is that a sitting president cannot be indicted.  They can only be impeached first, then charged.  So, the information that Mueller isn't recommending indictments says nothing directly about Trump.  What does Mueller's report say about Trump?  I don't have a clue.  If it says "I got nothin'," Barr will release the line that says so, with a bunch of other stuff redacted.  If it has incriminating stuff or recommendations to pursue action against Trump, you'll never see it.

That brings me to what I've been saying about the Mueller report.  I've written repeatedly that you will never see it.  OK, time to get a little more precise.  You will not see the full document.  It will not be released to Congress, nor to the public.  Neither Trump nor Barr gives a rat's ass how the House voted, nor about what would have happened in the Senate if Trump's little flunky, Lindsey Graham, hadn't stopped it.  [Remember when Lindsey Graham used to pretend he had a spine?  Wasn't that cute?  Seriously, though, how does that waste-of-carbon walk without a spine?  This is a medical mystery that should be investigated.]  President Pussy-Grabber does not care.  What's that, you say?  You don't like it that he's going to hide the full report?  Too bad.  See that hand?  Look closely.  You might need a microscope.  It's about to grab you by your pussy.   The worst part is, if you piss on it, he likes that.  Oy.  I'm in a bad mood this morning.  Can you tell?

Here's the thing about having a document in your possession.  You get to be the one who releases the snippets that support your position, regardless of truth.  So, Trump, being the most shameless, craven liar in the history of language, will instruct his toadies to go through the Mueller report, find any line that can be interpreted as saying, "NO COLLUSION!!!," release that, and bury the rest with his tax returns and my capacity to enjoy eating mushrooms.

The only information we have ever learned from Robert Mueller has been through indictments.  No more of those are coming.  No law compels Barr to release the report.  Why would he?  Claim national security, blah, blah, blah, release some snippets that appear to exonerate Trump, and be done with it.  And the Democrats will never get the votes to convict Trump in the Senate, so they will almost certainly not be stupid enough to pass articles of impeachment through the House.  Then again, the Democrats have been getting especially stupid lately, so maybe I should back off from this prediction.

What if Nadler or someone else subpoenas Mueller to testify?  That'll be a fun legal fight, but the probability that it leads to Trump's removal from office?

Zero.

Game over, man, game over.  This game ended long ago.
