Ex-CM Yong approved 999 land titles to Taman Seputeh residents in 1998

KOTA KINABALU - Former Member of Parliament Datuk Philip Yong Chiew Lip, today, came out to refute accusations in social media postings recently by certain irresponsible parties had accused Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee of reverting the land title leases from 999 years to 99 years is a total lie.

Philip Yong, in setting out to correct the lies spread through the social media took the effort to personally visit residents living in Taman Seputeh. He was accompanied by Foo Fook Ming, who was a former Political Secretary to ex-Chief Minister Datuk Yong Teck Lee and Chin Vui Kai, who is SAPP Information Chief.
The purpose of re-visiting Taman Seputeh, Likas, is to remind the residents there and people at large that Datuk Yong Teck Lee, when he was the Sabah Chief Minister, had in fact approved and granted the house owners there 999 year freehold titles.

Datuk Philip, who was present during a thanksgiving ceremony at Taman Seputeh on March 7, 1998 when Yong as Chief Minister was there, showed a copy of the title deed as proof to counter the misleading news and lies spread by irresponsible parties out to attack Yong.

He also said that at the time, former Chief Minister Yong was in office briefly for two years did not have enough time to grant more 999 year freehold titles. However, Yong at the same time during his tenure had allocated lands to many independent Chinese primary schools as well as land to various ethnic groups.

“With the looming general election, it is no surprise political opponents will be trying to circulate slanderous, misleading and twisted lies to their own benefit,” Philip said.

“Facts are facts, we cannot change that,” he said.
