The global tally for confirmed cases of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 climbed above 117 million on Tuesday, according to data aggregated by Johns Hopkins University, while the death toll rose above 2.6 million. The U.S. has the highest case tally in the world at 29 million, or about a quarter of the global tally, and the highest death toll at 525,816, or about a fifth of the global toll. The U.S. added at least 98,513 new cases on Monday, according to a New York Times tracker, and at least 815 people died. The U.S. has averaged 64,722 new cases a day in the past week, down 3% from two weeks ago.
