The Taliban May Receive $500 Million From The IMF Next Month

CNN: Biden administration tries to prevent $450 million from flowing to Taliban 

New York (CNN Business)The Biden administration is moving to prevent the Taliban from accessing about $450 million in funds due to arrive next month from the International Monetary Fund. 

The Treasury Department is taking steps to prevent the Taliban from accessing the IMF funds, a Treasury official told CNN on Wednesday. 

In a Tuesday letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, 17 GOP lawmakers called it "extremely concerning" that the IMF is scheduled to allocate funds to Afghanistan next week. 

They note this would "provide nearly half a billion dollars in unconditional liquidity to a regime with a history of supporting terrorist actions against the United States and her allies."

WNU Editor: The Taliban are a designated terrorist organization that has a history of supporting other groups to attack the West. It will be the height of hyprocrisy if they get a half a billion dollars in unconditional liquidity. 

My prediction. They will not receive this money. But what bugs me about this is that it was GOP lawmakers demanding that these funds should be stopped that the Treasury then kicked in to stop these funds. The US Treasury should have made the necessary steps to block these funds without lawmakers telling them to do so.
