Most people who are aware of Ralph Stanley today think of him as a singer, and associate him with the soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou? As a banjo aficionado, I associate him with a style known as "clawhammer," which predates the more popular three-finger style associated with Earl Scruggs.
